Host families: what we’re looking for & how it works
We are looking to place the Spanish visitors with English families who have children of a similar age and with similar interests. The aim is for the visitors to not only practise and perfect their English language skills while living as part of your family, but also to get to know the country and people here in the West Country.
While we aim to remunerate host families well, we are looking for people who feel they would also benefit from the experience beyond the financial reward. Ideally, you would not be hosting other foreign visitors while your Spanish guest is staying with you, although this may be acceptable depending on the circumstances.
We do not expect you to take the children on any outings or expeditions other than those you would be making with your own children in the summer. Any trips or outings that involve significant outlay on the part of the host family will be reimbursed.
If your family is a suitable match for one of our Spanish children, we will arrange to visit your home to find out a little more about you and give you the opportunity to meet us and cover any questions or queries you might have.
The children come to England for a period of approximately three weeks to coincide with the start of the UK summer holidays. The dates you would be hosting a Spanish child this year are from Tuesday 23rd July to Wednesday 14th August. We ask host families to pick up and drop off their guest at a number of pick-up points: Brittany Ferries Plymouth Millbay, Moto Exeter Services or Axminster railway station.
